History

Browns the Greengrocers are a small family run business established in 1892. The business first began on a market stall in Leeds, and over the last 5 generations has progressed into a well-known shop, market, catering and delivery business. Here, at Browns we pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality fresh fruit and vegetables at great prices, whilst maintaining our ‘original barrow boy’ routes.

Browns the Greengrocers have been long term traders at Skirlington market near to Hornsea, having traded there for over 30 years. Further from this we have an established shop in the historic market town of Pocklington.

Over the past few years we have expanded as a company and now trade at the following markets:

Pickering (Monday)
Beverley (Wednesday)
Cottingham (Thursday)
In addition to this we have also re-opened our shop within the seaside town of Hornsea.

One of our biggest achievements across the years of trading was to have been selected to supply produce for the Queens visit in 2012. This proved that all the hard work we have put into maintaining a traditional Greengrocers was acknowledged with the seal of approval being that our produce is ‘fit for the Queen’.
